Overview
The Char Dham is a sacred Hindu pilgrimage circuit in Uttarakhand, consisting of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Each site is associated with a river and a deity—Yamuna, Ganga, Shiva, and Vishnu respectively—and the yatra is believed to wash away sins and lead to salvation.
Tungnath is the world’s highest Shiva temple and part of the Panch Kedar. Located near Kedarnath, it lies on the route to Chandrashila and is known for its spiritual significance and scenic trek. Though not part of the Char Dham, it holds deep religious importance for devotees of Lord Shiva.

Itinerary
This spiritual journey covers the sacred Char Dham temples—Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath—along with the serene Tunganath Temple, nestled high in the Himalayas. Starting from Haridwar or Rishikesh, pilgrims trek and drive through beautiful Himalayan landscapes, visiting ancient temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, and Goddess Yamuna. The trip blends challenging treks, breathtaking mountain views, and deep spiritual experiences over in 10 days. Ideal for those seeking a mix of devotion, adventure, and nature, this pilgrimage is best undertaken from May to October.
Morning pick-up from Haridwar Railway station/ Bus stand/ or any nearby location.
Take a holy snan in the Ganges at Har ki Pauri.
Drive to Barkot via Mussoorie (approx. 210–230 km, 7 to 8 hours).
Enjoy scenic mountain views along the Yamuna River valley.
Reach Barkot, a peaceful town at the foothills of Yamunotri.
Check-in at hotel and rest.
Overnight stay and Enjoy Dinner at hotel in Barkot.
After Breakfast , Drive to the Yamunotri base (Janki Chatti, approx. 6 km from Barkot).
Trek or hire a pony/palanquin for the 6 km uphill journey to Yamunotri Temple.
Visit the Yamunotri Temple, take a holy dip in the hot springs nearby.
Explore the surrounding scenic areas and local markets.
Trek back to Janki Chatti by afternoon.
Drive back to Barkot.

After breakfast, drive from Barkot to Uttarkashi (approx. 85 km, 3 to 4 hours).

Early morning drive from Guptkashi to Gaurikund/Sonprayag (approx. 25 km, 1 to 1.5 hours).
Begin the trek to Kedarnath Temple (about 16 km uphill trek).
Arrive at Kedarnath Temple, perform darshan and offer prayers.
Overnight stay in tents in Kedarnath (basic accommodations or tents).
Early morning Kedarnath Darshan at Temple and seeks the blessings of lord Shiva in the mountains and feel the divine atmosphere.
After an early breakfast, trek down from Kedarnath to Gaurikund / Sonprayag (about 16 km).
After a short refreshment, proceed to Chopta (approximately 70 km from Guptkashi via Rudraprayag)
In the evening Reach Chopta , a scenic hill station and base for Tunganath and Chandrashila treks .
Enjoy the serene environment surrounded by forests and mountain views.
Overnight stay and Dinner at hotel in Chopta.
Early morning trek (5 km) from Chopta to Tungnath Temple the highest Shiva temple.
Optional 1.5 km further trek to Chandrashila Peak for stunning 360° Himalayan views.
Return trek to Chopta, freshen up & depart from Chopta towards Joshimath, a gateway to Badrinath nestled in the Himalayas.
Enjoy a scenic drive through mountain roads, river valleys, and confluence points like Karnaprayag and Nandprayag.
Arrive in Joshimath by night, a peaceful town known for its spiritual calm and snow-covered peaks.
Dinner and overnight stay in Joshimath.
Begin the day with a beautiful drive from Joshimath to Badrinath, nestled between the Nar & Narayan peaks and blessed with divine serenity.
On the way witness the divine Vishnuprayag.
Take a holy dip in the Tapt Kund, then proceed for darshan at the revered Badrinath Temple .
After offering prayers, visit Mana Village, the First Indian village near the Indo-Tibetan border.
Explore important sites like Vyas Gufa, Ganesh Gufa, Saraswati River origin, Bhim Pul, and Narad Kund. Also see the Swargarohini Path, believed to be the route taken by the Pandavas to ascend to heaven.
Return to Joshimath by evening.
Dinner and overnight stay in Joshimath
After breakfast, check out from Joshimath and begin the return journey towards Haridwar.
En route, enjoy scenic views of the Alaknanda River and stop at Devprayag, where the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers merge to form the Ganga.
A brief halt at Rishikesh to visit iconic spots like Ram Jhula & Laxman Jhula (if time allows).
Reach Haridwar by evening, marking the completion of your spiritually enriching Dham Yatra.
