6D/5N Tribal Trails of the Northeast – From Majuli’s Monks to Ziro’s Apatanis

6 Days

Overview

Discover the tribal heartlands of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam on this immersive 6-day monsoon journey from Dibrugarh to Ziro Valley and Majuli Island. The experience begins with a scenic drive from Dibrugarh to Ziro, passing through dense forests, mountain settlements and mist-covered hills before reaching the homeland of the Apatani tribe. The following days offer a deeper understanding of Apatani traditions through guided village walks, interactions with local communities, terraced paddy fields, bamboo groves, sacred groves and traditional crafts. Explore bamboo weaving and cane work while learning about local food traditions and the Donyi-Polo faith system. The journey then continues towards Majuli, Assam’s culturally significant river island in the Brahmaputra. Stay in a traditional Mising-style bamboo river cottage and explore the island with a local guide. Discover ancient Neo-Vaishnavite Satras, traditional mask-making, Mishing villages built on stilts and the region’s distinctive handloom traditions. The final day brings you back to Dibrugarh, with an optional visit to a heritage tea estate if time permits. Combining tribal culture, traditional crafts, nature, village experiences and monsoon landscapes, this journey offers an offbeat introduction to two culturally distinctive regions of Northeast India.
